In-form Fulham look set for a return to the Premier League this year, although if it is to happen they'll need to win through the play-offs.

They're the side to beat at the moment, surging up the table under the watchful eye of Slaviša Jokanović.

Being in a position where you may be promoted, or you may not does make recruitment a little tougher in the summer.

They have to make two contingency plans, one based on top flight football and one based on remaining in the Championship, albeit at the top.

The trick is to identify a player that might be suitable for both role.

Harrison Reed is a Premier League player, contracted to Southampton but on loan at Norwich City.

His parent club are struggling against the drop, whilst his current employers have failed to deliver the play off assault that their fans demand. In the middle of it all is a talented English midfielder aching to succeed somewhere, perhaps anywhere. Why not Fulham?

In the 4-3-3 Fulham play there's always the need for a composed, ball-playing midfielder of Reed's ilk.

He is a technically gifted central midfielder with a range of passing which helps to build the play from deep. In the Fulham way that would be ideal, peppering balls out to Ryan Sessegnon or Lucas Piazon, or perhaps through the centre.

He's young and clearly ambitious and must be worth a second look.

What's more, he's already open to the suggestion of a move.

“I haven’t really sat down and thought about my future but there will come a time in the season where I will sit down with my agent, my family, and see what opportunities arise,” he recently told the Eastern Daily Press. “I don’t feel like I want to go back to sitting in the stands, training all week and then on a Saturday not being involved. That’s not something I want to do and I think if you asked many footballers, they would agree."

He even made his Championship debut at Fulham, as Norwich earned a 1-1 draw back in August.

So, he's young and hungry, experienced at Championship level but with some Premier League games under his belt and he's open to a move.

Whether they go up or not, Fulham would be a perfect fit for the former England U20 international.
