Steve Bruce is delivering at Villa Park, which is something he deserves huge credit for, with Aston Villa as a club almost unrecognisable to the set-up that was so divided last season.

Villa are well in the hunt for promotion in the Sky Bet Championship this season, with Saturday evening’s 4-1 demolition of Wolverhampton Wanderers adding further momentum to a push that has snowballed in 2018.

Of course, Bruce will have is full focus on delivering promotion, but here at FLW, we have identified a player that Villa could make a move for in the summer, whatever division they find themselves in.

That man is Nick Powell, who has had a fine season for Wigan Athletic in League One, which is highlighted by our latest spotlight:

Powell is part of a Wigan side looking to secure promotion in League One, with the 23-year-old forward making 29 appearances, scoring 12 goals and assisting a further three for the Latics.

The former Manchester United man has a shot conversion of 15% and has won 64 fouls over the course of the season, along with picking up just six yellow cards.

Powell has been a key part of handing Wigan a real opportunity of promotion in League One, and has the ability to play at a much higher level than the third-tier.

This season at Villa Park, Bruce has relied on Jack Grealish, Albert Adomah and Robert Snodgrass to create, and when the former two were absent recently, Villa struggled.

Adding a player of Powell’s ability and potential could be perfect ahead of next season, whether Villa find themselves once again battling for promotion in the Championship, or back in the Premier League.
