It's clear for Aston Villa that despite being a transitional campaign for the Midlands outfit, the team have heavily relied on one man to hit the net throughout the year.

At the time, the transfer fee of £15 million was gobsmacking for some, however, Jonathan Kodjia has truly shown his value and it's clear the 27-year-old Frenchman will perform a pivotal role in a promotion chase next season.

To do that though, Villa need a striker who is just as capable of scoring a goal and brings a different approach to the game - £1.4 million rated Manchester United attacker James Wilson.

Once a highly-thought of forward at Old Trafford, the potential of Wilson has been seen as of yet with the ex-England under-21 international sorrowfully sitting on the sidelines as he recovers from a ruptured cruciate ligament injury, which incidentally cut his time short on loan at Derby County in early February.

The 21-year-old centre-forward once featured on five occasions for the Rams during his sixth month spell at Pride Park; scoring a single goal, in the EFL Trophy.

Last season James Wilson played a bigger role at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Thankfully for him he was able to stay injury-free and went on to make 25 appearances for the Seagulls as they finished in the play-offs.

So it is most definitely clear that the Premier League attacker is highly-rated amongst the Manchester United camp, and another loan spell to a Championship outfit will allow him to develop from his long-term period in the stands.

Why Aston Villa need to acquire his services is quite obvious, he will be a fairly cheap and proficient option to have beside Jonathan Kodjia if for what ever reason he has a run of games without rippling the net.

Steve Bruce also has a good relationship with the youth academy in Manchester after giving loanee Sam Johnstone plenty of minutes on the pitch in between the posts, so the staff at the Red Devils will know for sure Wilson would get game time at Villa Park.
