Portchester boss Dave Carter has revealed there is a third professional side in the race to recruit forward Harrison Brook, speaking to The News.

It was revealed by the same outlet that Luton Town and League One outfit Cheltenham Town are currently tracking his progress ahead of a potential approach with the 19-year-old impressing in non-league.

Scoring nine goals in his opening 15 games of the campaign, the teenager has been a prolific figure on the south coast after dropping down to non-league football following spells at Portsmouth and Southampton.

Rejecting terms at the former, that has proved to be costly for the youngster who isn't guaranteed to move back to the EFL, though he could be set for a return at some point if he can retain his current form and remain injury-free.

It's currently unclear whether Luton's switch in manager has had an impact on their pursuit of Brook with Rob Edwards taking over from Nathan Jones following the latter's move to St Mary's to link up with the forward's former club.

If they are, they don't look set to be short of competition in their potential quest to recruit him with his current boss Carter revealing that another side have come to see him in action.

He said: "Harrison’s had Luton, Cheltenham and another pro club to watch him – and is definitely the right age to be looked at.

"At the moment he’s happy where he is, he’s got his confidence, he’s playing well and wants to progress with us as a club.

"Obviously if a Football League club came in for him he has to consider it and I would like to think the lad would be given a chance, he has all the makings of being able to perform at that level."

The Verdict:

He would certainly be an exciting addition for the Hatters and you feel he's the sort of signing they would make considering he isn't too expensive, even though the Bedfordshire outfit opened their wallet a bit more during the previous window.

Recruiting Cauley Woodrow and Carlton Morris to compete with the likes of Elijah Adebayo, Harry Cornick and Cameron Jerome up top, Edwards already has a decent number of attacking options at his disposal.

You feel Edwards is likely to operate with a 3-4-1-2 though and this could give Brook the chance to force his way into the matchday squad if there are injuries - but he will need to make the most of every minute he has on the pitch if he wants to retain his spot in the first 18.

Cheltenham also operate with two up top and a move there could be a beneficial one for Brook, not just because it would be less of a massive step up than Luton would be, but also because he could learn a lot from Alfie May.

May has spent a decent chunk of his career in non-league football so he could be integral in helping the 19-year-old to make the step up to a professional club once more.
