Since joining from Watford, Fernando Forestieri has quickly emerged as not only a fans' favourite but as a talisman for the South Yorkshire side.

As one of Sheffield Wednesday's consistent top performers in recent seasons, it's difficult to quantify just how integral he has been to Sheffield Wednesday's success.

Over the course of two seasons at Sheffield Wednesday, Forestieri has scored twenty-five times and provided ten assists from the deeper secondary striker position.

The 27-year-old forward was linked with a move to Championship rivals Derby County in the summer and it appeared that Forestieri may be interested in the move, however, Sheffield Wednesday remained resilient and staved off any interest in the Italian playmaker.

If Forestieri can replicate his goal scoring form from over the past season and a half, Sheffield Wednesday may face a real test to keep Forestieiri at the club.

FLW writer Elliott Wheat-Bowen looks at two possible replacement for Fernando Forestieri if he does depart in the near future.

Tom Lawrence

One of the standout performers in the Championship so far this season in a struggling side has been Ipswich Town forward Tom Lawrence.

With eight goals and six assists in just twenty-six Championship appearances, Tom Lawrence has been outstanding playing the secondary striker role in Mick McCarthy's side.

The on-loan Leicester star has been attracting attention from a number of Championship sides due to his ever growing collection of excellent long-range strikes and solo runs.

As it has been the Welsh international's most prolific season to date, it comes as no surprise to see the former Manchester United midfielder receive many plaudits this season.

Around players of Sheffield Wednesday's quality, Tom Lawrence could continue to blossom and perform at an even higher level and be an excellent replacement for Fernando Forestieri.

Tom Cairney

As well as Tom Lawrence, Tom Cairney has also been one of the standout performers in the Championship this season as the heartbeat of Fulham's midfield.

After joining Fulham from Blackburn Rovers, Cairney has continuously proved himself to be one of the best midfielders in the entire division.

This season, however, has been not only his most prolific season to date but also his standout season as he has been the creative driving force behind Fulham's success.

Already this season, Tom Cairney has directly contributed more goals (eight goals and ten assists) than the entirety of last season.

Cairney's performances have attracted attention from other Championship sides with Newcastle United and Aston Villa stating their interest, however, Fulham resolutely dismissed the speculation and held onto their star player.

However, Tom Cairney could be the ideal replacement for Fernando Forestieri if the Italian was to depart, especially considering the experience he has in the Premier League with Hull City.
