Newcastle are sitting pretty at the top of the Sky Bet Championship with an eight point cushion to third placed Huddersfield Town.

The Championship title was no doubt the aim at the start of the season for the Magpies, but the challenge of Brighton has taken them by surprise and arguably brought the best out of the Toon.

The form of Dwight Gayle has been key for Newcastle this season, and this has meant Aleksandar Mitrovic has played a bit part role this season and Daryl Murphy is seemingly above him in the pecking order too.

A summer departure could be on the cards for Mitrovic, which would mean Newcastle will need a replacement and goal scorers are hard to come by.

Newcastle's likely destination is the Premier League, so any replacement will need to be of the highest quality and most likely of the highest price, so they will need to command a sizeable fee for the Serb.

Here, FLW's Chris Wilson will look at TWO potential replacements for Mitrovic...

Callum Wilson

Callum Wilson was on Newcastle's radar in the January window, but a move never materialised, largely due to Wilson sustaining a nasty injury.

Wilson has proved he scores goals at whatever level he plays at, so whether Newcastle are in the Premier League or Championship, Wilson will score goals.

The striker should be back in training around pre-season and if Newcastle can get him fit over that time,  they will have a great striker at their disposal.

Abel Hernandez

Hernandez is currently in the midst of a relegation dog fight in the Premier League with Hull, that the Tigers could yet fail to get out of.

Regardless of whether Hull stay up or go down, Hernandez will not be short of potential suitors in the summer and it would be no surprise if he left.

Hernandez seems the perfect fit for Newcastle and his ability yto play up on his own or in a front two will be something that surely attracts Benitez.
