Sunderland released keeper Max Stryjek yesterday after almost six years with the club, as reported by the Chronicle Live.

The 22-year-old joined the Black Cats in September 2013 from Polish side Polonia Warsaw, but has never managed to make a senior appearance with the club.

He's spent plenty of time out on loan, working his way up from the National League North with Boston United to League Two with Accrington Stanley. He made just one outing for Stanley and spent the first half of last season with Eastleigh in the National League.

He was recalled in the winter to provide cover for the first team, but didn't make an appearance despite the club's run in the EFL Trophy.

He's posted a heartfelt goodbye to Sunderland on his Twitter feed, thanking the staff and supporters. He gives a special thank you to Mark Prudhoe, the goalkeeping coach who he's worked with closely at the Academy of Light, Sunderland's training ground.

It's brought a number of supporters to Twitter to thank the young player, with some believing he might have stayed in the wake of Robbin Ruiter also leaving the club. He hasn't, he's been released and now faces an uncertain future.
