Sunderland confirmed the signing of Peterborough defender Jack Baldwin on a two year contract, who becomes their ninth signing of the summer.

In a statement released on the Sunderland website, the Black Cats announced the signing of the 25-year-old on a two year deal, for an undisclosed fee.

The centre half, who made 116 appearances for Peterborough, 43 of which came last season in a campaign that saw his side finish ninth in League One, joins a new look Sunderland squad ahead of their League One season.

The former Posh captain had been subject to a lot of interest from Sunderland throughout this summer’s transfer window, but Sunderland head coach Jack Ross, now has his man.

Ross told the official site: “Everybody knew we were looking to strengthen again in this area of the pitch and now we’re comfortable with where we’re at in terms of central defensive options."

“Jack is proven in this league and he’s at a good age with his best years ahead of him, and he has a hunger to improve and do well.”
