Bolton Wanderers recently announced that Stoke City had exercised their option to recall Thibaud Verlinden from his loan spell with Keith Hill's side.

Verlinden made 15 league appearances for the Trotters in his time with the club, and made a positive impression with everyone associated with the club, scoring three goals and being on hand to provide three assists in total.

It leaves Bolton with a slight lack of depth in wide areas of their team, and Keith Hill could be tempted to look into finding a short-term replacement for the Stoke winger in the near future.

Verlinden took to Twitter following the announcement of his departure from Bolton, and thanked the club's fans for their support during his time with the Trotters.

Bolton are currently struggling to stay afloat in the League One standings at this moment in time, and are sat bottom of the table.

It seems as though relegation into League Two is inevitable, but Keith Hill's men have already shown that they won't go down without a fight.

Bolton are next in action on the 11th January when they take on Rochdale, in a game where they'll know that a win is certainly achievable.

How much can you remember about Bolton's 2018/19 season?

The Verdict:

This is a real blow for Bolton's unlikely survival bid this season in League One.

When he first arrived at the club, I thought that Bolton pulled off somewhat of a coup in signing Verlinden, as I thought he had the ability to be playing at a higher level.

I stick by that point as well, and I wouldn't be too surprised to see him potentially featuring for the Stoke City first team in the near future, as they look to fire themselves up the Championship table.

Bolton need to replace Verlinden at the earliest of opportunities during the January transfer window.
