Leeds United have recently been linked with a move for Oxford United midfielder Cameron Brannagan according to Football Insider

The report also claims that Marcelo Bielsa's men are rivalling Premier League side Burnley in the race to land his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

The Whites could be given a boost in their pursuit of the U's midfielder, with Football Insider recently reporting that due to recent off-the-field events bringing a temporary halt to fixtures across the UK, Oxford could be forced to lower their asking price for Brannagan.

Speaking in an interview with MOT Leeds News, former Whites goalkeeper Paul Robinson issued his thoughts on Brannagan, and didn't think as though he's the sort of player that is capable of playing in the Premier League next season.

"[He’s a] decent player. If Leeds are still in the Championship then he’d be a good buy but if they’re in the Premier League I think they’ve got to aim higher. Their target player needs to change in the Premier League.

"He’s a top player, though and he’s had a great season."

Robinson also hinted that Brannagan wouldn't get the regular minutes he needs to further his development, but insisted he'd be a 'great buy' if Leeds were playing their football in the Championship.

"I’d question whether he’d come into Leeds and play week-in, week-out in the Premier League, I’d question that. In the Championship though, he’d be a great buy.

"I do know that he’s a top player though and he could definitely be one for the future."

The Verdict:

It's a valid point that Robinson makes here.

Brannagan would be a good enough option to have in the Championship in my eyes, but I have my doubts as to whether he'd be good enough to play regularly in the Premier League on a regular basis next season.

Leeds can't afford to take a chance on players that aren't proven in the top-flight next term, and it's important that they sign players with proven experience to their name.

If they don't do that, then their potential spell in the Premier League could be a brief one.
