QPR manager Mark Warburton has returned to one of his former clubs Brentford to sign free-agent Yoann Barbet, who has left Griffin Park after four years at the club, as confirmed on the club website.

Barbet is a central defender who has previously played for Bordeaux B and Chamois Niortais in France, and who made 34 appearances in all competitions for Thomas Frank's side last season.

So could Barbet's move to QPR be one of the summer’s bargains in the EFL?

We discuss.........

Kealan Hughes

"Absolutely, they've done brilliantly to pull this off.

"They've beaten competition from the likes of Huddersfield and Aston Villa to bring him in, and it is really quite surprising that he hasn't gone to a top-half side.

"The addition of Lee Wallace on a free was a very good move but this probably trumps it. Unless QPR pick up any more quality players on a free then Barbet will be their signing of the summer."

Jacob Potter

"It could be the bargain of the season.

"I wasn’t surprised to see him leave Brentford after his contract expired and QPR have done really well to sign him on a free.

"He knows the Championship well, and will be key to the positive performances that the Hoops put in next season.

"A real coup for Mark Warburton’s side ahead of next year’s campaign."

George Brooks

"I know we're only a few weeks into the window, but this is a magnificent signing for QPR and Mark Warburton.

"Barbet was outstanding for Brentford last season prior to his injury and has got plenty of experience in the Championship.

"It's a fantastic signing for QPR, but a real blow for the Bees to lose a player of his quality on a free transfer.

Gary Hutchinson

“I genuinely had to check twice when I saw the news.

“QPR and Brentford are West London rivals and for the last few seasons Brentford have been on top.

“To me, this suggests that league position doesn’t change the fact QPR are a bigger club with a better draw.

“It’s a huge shock and a sign that maybe Mark Warbuton is on the right track. He’s certainly raiding a club he knew well.”
