Sheffield Wednesday have opened talks with Tottenham Hotspur to sign midfielder Josh Onomah on a permanent deal this summer, according to a report by Football Insider.

The 22-year-old made 15 for the Owls this season, after joining on a season-long loan from Spurs last summer and manager Steve Bruce is keen to sign him on a permanent deal.

Sheffield Wednesday finished 12th in the Championship table this season, ten points outside the play-off places, but enjoyed a remarkable turnaround under Bruce in the second half of this year's campaign.

The Owls boss will be looking to put his own stamp on the squad in the summer and is a big fan of Onomah, having signed him while in charge of Aston Villa last season.

So, would Onomah be a good signing for Sheffield Wednesday? We discuss…

Jacob Potter

"I'm really not sure they need him.

"There's no doubting that he's a player with an exciting potential, but I'm not convinced this would be a smart move by the Owls.

"Onomah hardly filled me with confidence with his performances for Sheffield Wednesday this season, and surely there are better options out there for Steve Bruce in the summer?

"I think they're making a mistake here in my opinion."

Toby Wilding

"This could be a smart signing for Wednesday.

"Onamah never really got the chance to properly make his mark during his time at Hillsborough last season due to injury, but there is no doubting his ability and potential.

"With Tottenham seemingly looking to strengthen in midfield in the summer, Onomah may find himself further down the pecking order in London.

"That could boost Wednesday's chances of getting a deal for him done cheaply, something which would help with their precarious financial situation."

George Brooks

"Onomah is a talented player and could be a good signing for Sheffield Wednesday.

"He's unlikely to get a chance in the first-team at Spurs next season, so he could be open to a return to Hillsborough.

"Steve Bruce is clearly a big fan of the player and has already proven that he can get the best out of him, he could develop him into a top player in the Championship."
