Having dropped down the pecking order at Sheffield Wednesday, to see veteran keeper Kieren Westwood turn out for the Owls U23’s in the 2-2 draw against Crewe Alexandra as reported in The Star, it would suggest that his Hillsborough career is coming to an end.
Coupled with the news that Leeds United may be in the market for the 34-year-old keeper, as back-up to Bailey Peacock-Farrell as reported in The Mirror (December 11th, Page 53), a move away look’s very likely in the January transfer window.
So what does playing Westwood in the under-23’s suggest? Wednesday putting Westwood in the shop window? Or just for fitness?
They’re getting him in the shop window.
It’s quite clear that there is very little chance of a future for Westwood at Hillsborough.
This way, clubs interested will know he’s fit and ready to make an impact.
He should be playing for Wednesday but until Luhukay is gone I’m not sure he will.
That might mean he’ll be a starter in a week or two.
Or it could mean he’s on his way very soon.
I think it signals the end of his time at Wednesday.
With reports linking him with a move to Leeds, then I wouldn’t be surprised to see him move in January.
It’s a real shame – he’s an Owls legend.
