New Sheffield Wednesday manager Garry Monk is setting his sights high on the back of a win in his first game in-charge, with a return to the Premier League this season the ultimate aim, as reported on Sky Sports.

Monk saw his side take all three points away at Huddersfield Town, who themselves were giving a debut to their new management team, of the Cowley brothers, with goals from Steven Fletcher and Sam Winnall securing the win that takes the Owls up to ninth in the table.

So could Monk realise his ambitions of promotion to the Premier League this season?

We discuss........

Toby Wilding

"At first I would say no, but when you think about it now, it could just be possible.

"When you look at the quality of a number of sides in this division on paper, you would argue that there are at least three teams more than capable of beating Wednesday to a place in the top flight this season.

"However, with the slow starts that the likes of Fulham, Cardiff and Derby have made, it does seem as though there could be places in the top six there for the taking come the end of May.

"Given the way the Owls ended last season under Steve Bruce, and how they looked in their first game under Monk on Sunday, they are certainly one of those who will be in contention to snatch a place in the top six, and it really is anyone's guess as to what happens after that."

Alfie Burns

“They’re big dark horses.

“Yesterday, in a tough game against Huddersfield, it didn’t look like Monk’s first game in-charge.

“He’s taking over on the back of some excellent work from Steve Bruce and Lee Bullen, and it’s hard to ignore the nucleus of the squad Monk has; it has real quality.

“Getting them playing Monk’s certain style of football will bring success. I can see them getting in the top-six.”

George Dagless

"Perhaps.

"It was a good win at the weekend and the Wednesday squad is good enough to challenge, it's just all about consistency.

"Monk will be itching to show what he can do after leaving Birmingham and he has the tools at Hillsborough to allow him to do that.

"It's going to be an interesting season at the Owls and it could well end in the play-offs this year."
