Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder will have his preparation for the coming season well under-way having been free of the end-of-season play-off lottery, following automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Wilder, 51, has identified Brentford striker Neal Maupay as a player who can make the step-up to the English top flight, with the 22-year-old one of the top picks in the list of transfer targets Wilder has submitted to the Bramall Lane board, according to a report in The Star.

But how will Blades fans be feeling as Maupay emerges on Wilder's radar?

We discuss........

George Dagless

"Surprised, probably.

"He'd cost big money and that has not been the Blades' approach in recent years.

"However, they'd surely like to see such a player arrive at their club and perhaps it shows the Blades are going to splash out a bit this window."

Alfie Burns

“They’ll be really happy.

“Maupay is exactly the type of signing that Sheffield United’s fans will want to see.

“He’s got age on his side and is already showing how clinical he can be in the Championship.

“The forward has all the attributes to step up into the Premier League and long-term, could be a Bramall Lane hero.

“The fanbase will really take to him.”

George Brooks

"Maupay would be an excellent signing for Sheffield United and Blades fans should be very excited by this news.

"Sheffield United need more firepower up front and Maupay has established himself as one of the best strikers in the Championship.

"He deserves a chance to prove himself in the top flight and could be capable of making the step up.

"Brentford will probably demand a big fee for the player, but it could be worth it."
