Sunderland have confirmed that they have secured the signing of Wigan forward, Will Grigg on a three-year-deal.

The move puts an end to one of the longest running transfer sagas of the transfer window.

Supporters will be pleased to see Jack Ross get this deal over the line as they are in need of some much-needed depth to their attacking options.

Sunderland sold Josh Maja to Bordeaux earlier this month, and there will have been fears that the club weren't going to find a replacement for their talisman before the transfer window closed.

Grigg will be hoping to live up to the hype that will be expected of him, and if he can rediscover the type of form that saw him fire Wigan to promotion in recent seasons, then the Black Cats will have some player on their hands.

But is Grigg an adequate replacement for Maja for Sunderland this season?

We discuss....

Gary Hutchinson:

"Grigg is certainly a decent replacement for Maja.

"He bagged 19 in the league last season and can seriously damage defences at this level.

"If I were a Sunderland fan I’d be very excited indeed.

"They’ll be asking ‘Josh who?’ come May."

Louie Chandler:

"As an immediate replacement, he is perfect.

"Obviously, Grigg does not hold the same worth given his age but as a direct League One replacement, there is not a better option.

"I fancy Grigg to all but guarantee Sunderland promotion."

Jacob Potter:

"He's the perfect replacement for Maja.

"Grigg is a proven goalscorer at League One level, and Sunderland have pulled of a real coup in securing his signature.

"He'll be the missing piece in the jigsaw for Sunderland's promotion bid."
