Swansea City manager Steve Cooper has had a solid start to the new Championship season, but has a decision to make, amid interest in Swans striker Borja Bastón from two Spanish clubs Rayo Vallecano and Huesca.

Bastón, 26, has been at the Liberty Stadium since 2016 making 20 appearances for the Swans, but has also spent loan spells away at both Malaga and Alaves.

So should Swansea look to offload Bastón?

We discuss........

Toby Wilding

"I'm not convinced they should.

"Having already sold the likes of Oli McBurnie and Jordan Ayew in the summer transfer window, you feel as though Swansea would be leaving themselves someway short in numbers up front should they now allow Borja to make the move back to Spain.

"Indeed, the departure of Borja would leave the on-loan duo of Aldo Kalulu and Sam Surridge, both of whom are inexperienced at this level - as the club's only real options as out and out centre forwards.

"That feels like it would be a big risk for Swansea to take, particularly considering they will not be able to add to their own attacking options now until the transfer reopens again in January, by which time plenty of damage can have been done to a side's prospects for the campaign."

George Brooks

"This is an interesting one. Borja Baston has really struggled to make an impact for Swansea so far, but he has started both of their opening matches in the Championship so far and scored on the opening day of the season against Hull.

"He could turn out to be a useful player this season, if Steve Cooper can get the best out of him.

"He's got one year left on his contract at Swansea, so the club may want to cash in on him now while they still can, rather than allow him to become a free agent next summer.

"However, Swansea have limited options in attack at the moment, so I'm not convinced they should sell Baston while they are unable to bring in a replacement. It would have to be considered a risk if they were to let him go."

Jacob Potter

"They’d be stupid to sell him at this stage of the season.

"Swansea are already thin on options in attack after they sold Oliver McBurnie to Sheffield United not so long ago.

"Given that the transfer window is now shut for English clubs, Swansea shouldn’t be looking to sell anymore strikers, otherwise they’ll have no outlet for goals until January at least.

"Baston has started the first two games of the season for the Swans, and although he hasn’t looked like the ideal replacement for McBurnie, he’s still a good enough option to have in attack in the Championship.

"Swansea need to do everything they can to keep him at the club for as long as possible, otherwise their ambition will come into question."
