Sheffield Wednesday face competition from Fulham as they look to complete a summer deal for Michael Hector.

The Jamaican international, who is contracted to Chelsea, spent the past season with the Owls and scooped the Player of the Year award after a fantastic individual campaign.

And, Steve Bruce is desperate to bring the centre-back in on a permanent basis this summer but the Sheffield Star have confirmed the Cottagers interest.

So, are Wednesday still favourites to land Hector?

Our writers take a look...

George Brooks

"I think so. Hector has had an outstanding season for Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship.

"He already has a good relationship with his manager Steve Bruce and the fans at Hillsborough. Hector has been on loan 15 times in his career and may finally want to settle at one club.

"The player would probably favour a permanent move to Sheffield Wednesday, rather than starting over again at Fulham."

Gary Hutchinson

"Because of the loan spell, yes.

"However, location is a factor as well. I’d perhaps think that Fulham might have the edge.

"Loan players benefit from different spells with different clubs too."

George Harbey

"They have surely got to be favourites.

"After the season he has had, I can’t see him wanting to play his football anywhere else other than at Hillsborough next season.

"He will be available at a cut-price and Wednesday should do everything they can to keep him on a permanent basis."

Ben Lang

"Yes. After spending a season there, they will be in the driving seat.

"Hector's signing should be one of Bruce's priorities, so the manager will surely be able to convince him to stay.

"Wednesday can surely push for promotion next season, so this will also be a major attraction for Hector."
