Next season is beginning to look like it will be a very exciting one for Brentford fans following a summer of impressive recruitment.

The Bees finished last season in mid-table after a brilliant start under Dean Smith evaporated following his departure.

But a strong finish under Thomas Frank, where they won seven of their final 13 matches, recaptured the hope that the 2019/20 season could signal their time to impress.

And that has been backed up this summer with the arrivals of Pontus Jansson, Ethan Pinnock, Christian Nörgaard, Mathias Jensen and David Raya.

So, how can we assess their chances for the coming season?

Tackling today's six-pointer is Louie Chandler...

How good a summer has it been for the Bees?

"It has been pretty excellent, hasn't it?

"For a team renowned for selling their top talents, to only see Ezri Konsa leave, and for such a big fee, has got to be a massive positive.

"And to replace him with someone of Pontus Jansson's ability is a serious statement and somes up their entire window, really. Smart and ambitious."

Who has been the stand-out acquisition?

"It is hard to look past Jansson for me.

"Not even necessarily for the quality of the player but for the message it sent. Leeds have been made one of the favourites for promotion this season and understandably so following their previous campaign.

"For Brentford to poach their stand-out centre-back sent a real message to the rest of the division about the ambition the Bees are carrying this season."

How does it rank against other club's in the division?

"There's has been by far the strongest - possibly tied with Fulham's.

"Frank and the rest of the Brentford hierachy have clearly been planning this summer's business for a while which I don't think is something that many others have done.

"They were clearly aware that Konsa could leave, so moved for Jansson. It should give the fans a lot of confidence that if Neal Maupay or Said Benrahma leave they will be adequately replaced."

Do they have what it takes to challenge for promotion next season?

"I see no reason why not.

"Towards the end of last season they were back at their flowing best, often tearing opposition teams apart at will.

"Those performances were nearly always at Griffin Park, however, so taking that form on the road is a must throughout the coming campaign if they are to challenge at the top."

Ultimately, where will they finish?

"I can see them nestling in the top-six.

"An automatic promotion push could be slightly beyond them, with the significant squad changes taking place this season, but they will be challenging at the top.

"I certainly wouldn't put a top-two finish past them, but I think a couple of stronger squads could pip them."

What does their priority need to be for the rest of the summer?

"I think they need to cling onto Maupay for dear life.

"Benrahma is a crucial asset but his move to Villa is starting to look inevitable. I also think the Algerian is more easily replaceable.

"Finding players capable of scoring 20+ goals in a Championship season is incredibly difficult - far more difficult than finding a replacement winger - and I think their promotion hopes could depend on it."
