Birmingham City manager Garry Monk faces a difficult summer in the transfer window.

The transfer kitty is likely to be very limited this summer, with the fallout from the EFL points deduction last season for profitability and sustainability rule breaches

The Blues boss has already seen midfielder Jota head to Aston Villa, with 26-year-old Gary Gardner heading the other way in a permanent deal, having spent last season on-loan at St Andrew's.

So does Jota’s departure signal the start of a difficult summer for Birmingham City?

We discuss........

Kealan Hughes

“They were always in for a difficult summer. The points deduction for their huge financial losses indicates that there won’t be much to finance the transfer budget with.

“Selling Jota could be a positive. They’ve brought in a player who fitted in well last year and with it a few million which could be spent elsewhere.

“Combine that with money they would receive from selling Che Adams and a possible Jack Butland sale, then The Blues could have a decent amount to spend.”

Gary Hutchinson

“No, I don’t think so.

“They were always going to have to develop this summer.

“There has been a lot made of Jota, but he wasn’t outstanding last season.

“They might lose Che Adams but, if they do, it will give them some funds which might see Garry Monk able to build his own side.”

George Brooks

"I think it could be.

"Garry Monk has already admitted that Birmingham will struggle to compete with their Championship rivals in the transfer market this summer.

"After facing a points deduction from the EFL last season, Birmingham will need to be very careful with how much they spend and Monk could be forced to rely on signing free agents and loan players.

"On top of that, the club could lose some of their key players like striker Che Adams and that would have to be considered a major blow."
