Nottingham Forest’s decent run of form in the Championship was halted in its tracks at the weekend, when they went down 1-0 to improving Preston North End, a result that left Forest in seventh place in the table just two points off the play-off places.
Despite one of the largest squads in the league, Forest manager Aitor Karanka may need to scrutinise the goalkeeper position, with former Watford goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon coming under fire from sections of the City Ground support of late.
It’s somewhat fair to say he has not been in the best form this season, so should Forest be looking for a replacement in January?
They’ll have to consider other options.
When he arrived at the City Ground, I was certainly surprised.
The shot-stopper does have an error in him, and Aitor Karanka should be weighing up other options with the likes of Fraser Forster and Tom Heaton both likely to be available in January.
I’m not convinced he needs replacing, but he needs some serious competition.
Pantilimon is a guaranteed starter every week for Forest and he looks complacent.
A January addition could take his game to the next level.
They simply have to.
He’s been shaky this season which has surprised me.
I thought he was a top keeper struggling for a club, but it seems that wasn’t the case.
They need to recruit, there’s no doubt about that at all.
