Sheffield United continue to defy the odds in the Championship, sitting in the final playoff spot and playing some excellent football under Chris Wilder.

The Blades, despite succumbing to defeat to rivals Leeds this weekend, remain well within the mix for promotion as it stands, and the fans at Bramall Lane are still hopeful of a successful season for their club.

However, it's becoming increasingly clear that the club do need to invest in a striker to keep them in the top six, and today's news emerging of a potential six month loan deal for Jermain Defoe is bound to capture the attention of the Blades faithful.

The experienced and lethal striker has bagged over 100 Premier League goals during his time in the top flight, and he would no doubt be superb signing for a lot of clubs, despite being well into his 30's now.

With the news of such a deal potentially being on the table, we asked our writing panel at FLW for a few thoughts on the deal.

Here's what our writers think of Defoe to Sheffield United...

George Harbey

I think when you look at his experience then he most definitely is.
Sure, Sharp, Clarke and McGoldrick have been excellent, but the addition of Defoe would be beneficial for the Blades.
They should go for it.
Gary Hutchinson
I'm not sure he's the right man for the Blades, but I wouldn't turn him down either.
He's the sort of personality who lifts a club off the field.
I'd like to see a younger, ambitious striker come in, like John MArquis, but Defoe would be amazing for the squad.
Lee Connor
He'd certainly be a good signing for the Blades, but they also need to look at who's going to provide the ammunition.
Defoe thrives on chances being made, especially at 35, so United would need someone feeding him too.
Nevertheless, his pedigree is there, and he'd certainly be an improvement for the Blades.
