The Sunderland revival continues in League One under manager Jack Ross with the Black Cats now only three points off league leaders Portsmouth but with a game in hand on their rivals.

Black Cats owner Stewart Donald has been quoted by the Sunderland Echo that he believes there will be some movement in the January transfer window as he looks to help manager Jack Ross strengthen his side.

But which players are likely to be shown the Stadium of Light exit?

We discuss...

Jacob Potter

I still think they should be offloading their high earners.

The likes of Bryan Oviedo are still at the club and he is likely to be on ridiculously high wages at Sunderland so he is certainly one they should consider letting go.

Alim Ozturk and Robbin Ruiter have both struggled for game time this season and Jack Ross could potentially be looking into destinations for the pair.

Gary Hutchinson

I suspect Oviedo might be on his way and despite playing recently, McGeady is highly saleable too.

I’d expect more of the Under 23 squad to go out and get senior football too, that’s surely a no-brainer though.

It’s Oviedo I feel for. He’s class but hasn’t adjusted easily to third-tier football.

If you think Cattermole might go too you’d be wrong. He’s been huge for them this season and Jack Ross wouldn’t sanction it.

Jay Taylor

Despite playing and doing well for Sunderland, I can see Aiden McGeady and Bryan Oviedo leaving the club in January.

They are two of the club’s highest earners and should they leave it would free up a massive wedge in terms of wages for a host of prospective new signings.

Sunderland need to strengthen if they are to maintain a promotion push and with financial restrictions in place, players will need to leave before more come in.

So why not offload two of the biggest earners and get top League One players in with money to spare?
