Derby County could reportedly sign Rangers defender George Edmundson permanently for £1 million in the summer.

The 23-year-old joined the Rams on loan late in the January window and is due to return to Ibrox at the end of the season with two years left on his current deal there.

According to Football Insider, however, the Scottish club are keen to sell him and would be open to letting him leave for £1 million.

So, should Derby push to sign him? And is he worth that price?

Our FLW writers share their thoughts...

George Harbey

I think they should be all over this.

Derby’s squad is wearing thin and there are some experienced players like Davies and Waghorn out of contract in the summer.

There promises to be an overhaul at Pride Park this summer, and the addition of Edmundson would be a positive one on a permanent basis.

Edmundson was excellent at Oldham and was named in the League Two Team of the Season in 18/19, but it just hasn’t worked out for him at Rangers.

He’s been fairly solid since joining Derby albeit having spent time on the sidelines through injury, and he could be a real talent in the long run.

Chris Thorpe

I think Derby would be wise to snap him up as he still has plenty of potential to improve.

Okay, he hasn’t played as much as many would have thought this term but he certainly has all the attributes that Wayne Rooney looks for in a centre-back.

For the price of £1 million, the Rams could do a lot worse in the current market.

Rangers will be looking to reshape their squad after winning the title and as a result Derby should take full advantage and capture Edmundson.

Phil Spencer

I'm not entirely convinced that this is the best deal for Derby County.

While George Edmundson is a decent player he certainly hasn't set the world alight during his loan spell with the Rams.

Out of the nine matches that he's played, Derby have won just two and lost five, indicating that he hasn't had the sort of impact that Wayne Rooney would have hoped.

A fee of £1million isn't crazy but based on his lack of form I'm sure that the Rams will be looking to weigh up their options before making a move for a defender.
