Leeds United are set to open discussions with striker Kemar Roofe after the striker's impressive showing in August.

He bagged four goals and added two assists to earn himself the Championship Player of the Month award, allegedly attracting interest from the Premier League at the same time.

Leeds are keen not to lose their striker, which will prompt them to start negotiations over extending his current deal, according to Football Insider.

Roofe is currently contracted to the club until the end of next season, having joined from Oxford on a four-year deal in the summer of 2016.

The former West Brom trainee's exciting start took his Leeds career total to 21 goals in 93 matches, carrying on from 32 goals in 64 outings for Oxford in League Two. That form prompted the Whites to fork out a seven-figure sum, thought to be in the region of £3m, for his services.

Our FLW experts discuss the news of Roofe's possible new deal and assess whether it is an essential bit of business by Marcelo Bielsa's side.

It's vital for Leeds.

Roofe has been a great player for them this season and will be surely key in their promotion push this year.

Keeping him for the long run makes obvious sense and they'll be hoping to get it done ASAP.

Gary Hutchinson

This is great news for Leeds' fans, Roofe is a promising striker who has the attributes to make it in the top flight.

There's a sub-plot to the story too which I want to highlight. Roofe has proven that as a young player, being released by a Premier League team isn't the end.

He made it the beginning, thriving at Oxford and climbing back up the divisions.

He could make sure his former club rue letting him go which will be worth as much as any new deal Leeds can offer him.

Sam Rourke

This is amazing news.

They need to sort this ASAP, as Premier League clubs will be sniffing around the lethal attacker.

He fits perfectly into Bielsa's system at Leeds and they need to secure his future at Elland Road.
