Nottingham Forest have submitted an opening offer worth up to £10 million for Lewis O’Brien.

According to the Telegraph, the 23-year old is subject to interest from the Reds with a view to a permanent move this summer.

Here we ask our FLW writers their verdict on if Huddersfield Town should hold out for more in their negotiations with the Reds…

Forest are being difficult for the Terriers, with O’Brien’s release clause around £12 million, as per Teamtalk.com, Huddersfield should not sell for any less with three years remaining on the engine room's contract.

The Reds can afford to increase their bid to that amount having just won promotion to the Premier League, and the Terriers should not budge on that valuation.

The 23-year-old is worth the Reds paying a few extra million for and as the season draws closer their hand may be forced.

It would be a mistake to accept anything lower than the release clause, that it seems inevitable will be triggered at some point in the not too distant future.

Adam Jones

They need to keep pushing.

Accepting a £9m would be criminal considering he still has three years left on his contract and if he does have a release clause, they should force teams to trigger it if they are to take the midfielder away from the John Smith's Stadium.

Considering his age, he has the ability to become an even better player and is likely to be a regular in the Premier League in the future, so the Terriers need to generate as much money for his services as possible.

They should also be looking to insert a sizable sell-on clause if they do agree a fee with a club that's less than his release clause - because he could easily be sold on from Nottingham Forest to another side for a huge sum.

Josh Cole

Huddersfield ought to consider holding out for a larger fee for Lewis O’Brien this summer.

A key player for the club in the previous campaign, the midfielder helped the Terriers reach the play-off final by averaging a WhoScored match rating of 7.09 in the Championship.

With his current deal at the John Smith’s Stadium set to run until 2025, the Terriers will be in no rush to sell him to Forest.

Therefore, unless the Reds improve their bid, Huddersfield ought to consider keeping O’Brien at the club for the 2022/23 season.
