Yesterday, Crawley Town released the news that head coach Gabriele Cioffi had left the club by mutual consent after a dismal run of form in League Two.

The club named his assistant head coach, Edu Rubio, as the interim manager, as the search for a new permanent manager for the Red Devils gets underway.

Having finished four places above the relegation zone last season, Crawley are currently 17th in the league table but Cioffi has struggled to turn around their poor run of form and paid the price for it.

Here, we give our opinion on the managerial situation that Crawley are now left with...

How would you assess Cioffi's managerial reign while at Crawley?

"The only way to describe it would to describe it as being fairly dismal. The Italian only managed to pick up 21 wins from 72 games after he was appointed manager in September 2018, and the bad form from last season carried into this one. After a bright start, things began to fall away and he's not been able to address the slide.

"The win ratio that he had in charge of the club was appalling, and he has ultimately paid the price for it despite keeping them up last season."

Was letting Cioffi go the right thing to do for all parties?

"Letting Cioffi go was the right thing to do, because the poor run of form wasn't acceptable and Crawley were only just going to slide down the league table.

"They haven't won a league game since the 12th October and the board had to do something if they want to avoid relegation this season."

Is Edu Rubio the right man to try and stop the run in the short term?

"Crawley didn't have much of a choice but to give Rubio the interim reins of Crawley.

"There's belief that the squad is very capable, it just needs someone to get them playing at their full potential and Cioffi wasn't doing that.

"He knows the players, he will have his own ideas that may have been different to Cioffi's and he is the man that's best placed to try and make sure that Crawley don't go hurtling towards the drop zone before Christmas while the board hunt for the right manager for the long term."

Could Rubio be the right man to take the club forward in the long term?

"He could be, but there is always a chance that better could come along in the interview and shortlisting process.

"Rubio doesn't have enough experience to perhaps be the man to take Crawley as far as the board will want him to."

What type of manager should Crawley be looking at?

"They need an experienced manager to come in and steady the ship, who already has the contacts and the knowledge of the league to have an instant impact with January coming up.

"An experienced manager will have his own ideas already and will know what works for him, as well as demanding the respect from the players he is inheriting from Cioffi."

Is the current squad at Crawley one that a manager would want to work with?

"Cioffi had put together a good squad at Crawley that definitely has the potential to be doing better in the current league.

"There are a number of quality players within the Reds squad such as Ollie Palmer, Reece Grego-Cox and Bez Lubala that any manager at League Two level would want to work with."
