Birmingham City manager Pep Clotet has a decision to make regarding versatile defender Kristian Pedersen, with Watford considering a move for the former Denmark U21 international, according to a report by Football Insider.

Pedersen, 25, has been a regular for the Blues this season, making 29 appearances in the Championship, having made the move to St Andrews in June 2018.

So should Birmingham keep Pedersen or sell him if the price is right?

Chris Gallagher

"They must keep him.

"Quite simply, he is one of the best players at the club and one of the most consistent performers that Pep Clotet has.

"So, whilst Premier League interest is understandable in Pedersen, if Blues are serious about progressing as a club then they need to be able to keep hold of the former Union Berlin man.

"Of course, every player has a price and if the money could be reinvested elsewhere in more pressing areas of the team, such as up front, then cashing in may seem attractive. But, Blues needed to strengthen their squad this month and losing Pedersen would be a significant setback and it would understandably annoy the fans."

"I think that Birmingham should look to keep hold of Pedersen this month amid reported interest from Watford, as he has been of their most important players over the past couple of years.

"The Dane has plenty of time left on his contract at St. Andrew's, so it isn't as if they are in any rush to sell the defender at the first sign of any high-profile transfer interest.

"Pedersen may not be the greatest going forward, but he is a solid full-back who wears his heart on his sleeve and also produces a series of committed performances for Birmingham.

"He is a solid 7/8 out of 10 player and teams in the Championship need those type of characters if they are to succeed, and getting rid of him this month could really affect the club's relationship with the fans."

Josh Cole

“This would be somewhat of a coup for Watford if they can convince Pedersen to join the club today.

“One of Birmingham’s standout performers this season, the 25-year-old has been extremely consistent in the Championship under the guidance of their head coach Pep Clotet.

“As well as illustrating that he is a fantastic reader of the game in a defensive sense, Pedersen has also provided a threat going forward which has resulted in him producing five direct goal contributions in the Championship.

“Whilst it may take the defender some time to adjust to life in the Premier League, he unquestionably possesses all the ingredients needed to thrive at the highest level and thus Watford ought to take a risk on him.”
