Football League World's Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit Edward Marsh has urged the club to offload strikers Sam Winnall and Jordan Rhodes in January.

One of the key issues facing Owls boss Garry Monk ahead of the winter transfer window is the lack of support for leading striker Steven Fletcher.

The Scotsman is Wednesday's top scorer with five goals but Monk's three other striking options, Winnall, Rhodes and Atdhe Nuhiu, have added just two goals between them in their combined 21 Championship appearances this season.

Marsh suggested the Yorkshire club needed to add more support for Fletcher when the transfer window opens in January and urged the club to sell the forward duo as a means to do that.

Asked whether he felt there were players that needed to be offloaded, he said: "Yes. Starting with two strikers–Winnall and Rhodes."

"Winnall had a spell at the start of Monk’s reign where he looked to be good, yet has failed to maintain those performances.

"As for Jordan Rhodes, his lack of game time says it all. Looking back, selling him to Norwich in the summer for £3 million was a great idea. Add that to the £1.5 million loan fee they paid last season, and we would have regained nearly half of what we paid for him.

"I think we need to bring in a better striking option in January, and to allow that to happen they must be sold."

Wednesday face a tough test first up after the international break as they travel to the Hawthorns to take on league leaders West Bromwich Albion.
