West Brom have rejected a £16m Burnley bid for Jay Rodriguez this week, further resisting attempts by Sean Dyche to prise the former Southampton man away from the Hawthorns.

The Clarets have pursued the forward all summer, but Darren Moore is holding firm on their own valuation, with reports suggesting they want £20m.

Rodriguez moved from Southampton to West Brom in 2017 for a fee in the region of £12m and last season scored just seven goals in 37 Premier League appearances.

It seems as though the saga is set to continue, but is £16m a good fee for a 29-year old with an average goal scoring record? Or are West Brom right to hold out for more?

The FLW team discuss the move...

Jay Williams

West Brom signed Rodriguez on a four-year deal last summer for £12m so it has to take something special for them to accept a bid.

If he stays at The Hawthorns, I can see the former England international ending as the top scorer in the league so Darren Moore needs to keep him at all costs.

Unless someone bids north of £20m for the former Burnley and Southampton man, then West Brom should not entertain the offer.

Jay Taylor

The striker had been out injured for a while so £16million is a relativity fair price.

As the close of the transfer window edges ever nearer, values go up so you can understand why West Brom rejected the offer.

Any fee banded about should not exceed £20million, that would be the limit I’d pay but the fee reported is a fair one.

George Dagless

They're well entitled too.

West Brom don't massively need the money and Rodriguez is a top player on his day so why not hold out for more?

This is one to watch towards Deadline Day.

Christian Fuller

West Brom must hold onto Rodriguez if they are to succeed this season.

While I feel the forward might not start every game, he is certainly going to be one of the top players in terms of quality in the division.

But, offered another shot in the Premier League at his old side, might be tough to keep hold of him.

Chris Gallagher

They must be confident of another bid coming in.

To reject that much money for a 29-year old forward who isn't the most prolific is baffling to me. However, Burnley are desperate so I can see them coming in for him again, so it could turn out to be a clever move from Albion.
