West Brom sacked manager Darren Moore and his assistant head coaches at the weekend, following the disappointing 1-1 draw against Championship basement side Ipswich Town, sparking considerable media speculation as to who would take over at the Hawthorns.

Free agent Slavisa Jokanovic and Preston boss Alex Neil are just two of the names being linked with the post, but despite the club being in the midst of a promotion battle, with only nine games of the season remaining, they have turned to first-team coach Jimmy Shan to take the job on an interim basis.

But is it a mistake by the Baggies to appoint Shan as caretaker manager?

We discuss.....

Louie Chandler

"I think so.

"They obviously sacked Moore as they felt promotion would not be achieved this season so giving it to Shan does not make sense.

"If they want to win promotion they need to go all out for Jokanovic or Alex Neil in my opinion."

Gary Hutchinson

“It’s a surprise, I’ll give them that much.

“I thought they needed someone to take over right away.

“If they’re going to a caretaker, they may as well have kept Moore!”

Jay Taylor

“Well, they won last night so where is the mistake in that?

“To be honest, it could have been anyone as a caretaker manager – it doesn’t really matter.

“West Brom will appoint someone when they are ready, and Shan is just a stopgap while the process continues.”
