Barnsley have announced the signing of a new goalkeeper on a four-year deal.

Brad Collins, 22, is The Tykes' third signing of the summer, after bringing in midfielders Luke Thomas and Mike Bähre.

Collins was signed on a free from Chelsea, where he has been playing since 2010. The keeper has experience in the football league after playing for Forest Green during the 2017-2018 season and then playing for Burton Albion in League One last season.

In this Six Point Opinion story, we take a look at Barnsley's new signing in a bit more detail, and see whether it's a good move for the club and player.

How good of a signing is Brad Collins?

"The signing of Collins looks a shrewd one, as Burton Albion fans seem to rate him from his previous season in League One.

"Bearing in mind they've picked him up on a free and he is on a four-year deal, they have a respected goalkeeper who has the potential to become a really good player and also have a large resale value - so it makes sense on all levels.

"Collins would've attracted the interest from a lot of other clubs in the Championship and League One, especially Burton who thought they had their man, according to the Derby Telegraph. They have done well to pick him up."

What will he bring to the team?

"Collins managed to pick up 11 clean sheets last season in his 35 appearances.

"Not a guaranteed starter when he first signed for Burton, Collins soon made his place his own when Bywater was injured through his assured performances.

"Despite making a few mistakes early on in the loan spell, Clough stuck by the goalkeeper, who ended up being a key part of the side, impressing with his consistency and shot-stopping."

Will he be a starter for them next season?

"It would be very surprising if Collins wasn't going to be the number one next season.

"After such an impressive season he would've attracted some good clubs in the Championship and League One and it's hard to imagine him joining Barnsley without being promised to be starting.

"With the imminent departure of Adam Davies, this signing looks to be his long-term replacement."

What does this mean for Adam Davies?

"Adam Davies looks certain to be leaving the club, and it is expected that he will be announced at Stoke's new number one within the coming days.

"While Barnsley would've done everything they could do to keep Davies, he will certainly be leaving the club, and the fact that Barnsley have gone after another new, young goalkeeper all but confirms that."

How should the fans feel about this signing?

"Barnsley fans should be happy with this signing, as he poses a long-term option for the club.

"He might not be a big signing or a big name, but he won't be on a fat wage and he has potential to make the club a lot of money.

"Time will tell if he is cut out for the Championship, as the pressure and standard will be ramped up."

What do Burton fans think of him?

"It's a good indication that you've got a good player when you can see how highly he was rated at his last club.

"Many fans have discussed his capabilities since he joined Barnsley, and he has been described as a "quality" and "class" by fans of Burton.

"Below are some of their responses..."
