Birmingham City have joined a host of clubs including Hull City, Stoke City, Middlesbrough, Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland who are all trying to land Rangers winger Jordan Jones, according to a report by the Daily Record.

Jones, 25, is struggling for game time at Ibrox having made just 11 appearances in all competitions so far this season, only one of which have come in the league. so Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is open to letting him leave this week to help trim down his squad.

But would Jones be a good fit at Birmingham City and is he actually needed?

We discuss.........

Ethan Van Ristell

"The 25-year-old left-winger joined Rangers last summer from Kilmarnock on a free transfer, but it has not quite gone to plan for him at Ibrox in the last six months.

"Jones has featured just a total of five times in the Scottish Premiership for the Gers this season, and has fallen down the pecking order for Steven Gerrard's side.

"Birmingham have since registered their interest in the wide man, and Jones possesses pace and the ability to beat a man on the run, which could be just what Pep Clotet is looking for.

"However, with many players in the current Blues squad who can play on the left such as Fran Villalba, Jacques Maghoma and Jefferson Montero, Jones may have a hard time getting into the side."

Louie Chandler

"I'm not going to pretend to have seen a lot of Jones this season but with just five appearances to his name this season, it sounds like a tough one to get excited about.

"At 25, it is also a signing that perhaps lacks the sell-on value that the Blues should be looking for in a new arrival.

"Bolstering the wings is not a bad idea from Clotet, considering the 4-4-2 he likes to play with.

"But with Maghoma, Montero, Bela and even Bellingham all capable of playing on the left, as is Jones, they should perhaps be targeting a more out and out right-sided man."

Dean Cooke

"This would be a very Birmingham City signing and one that wouldn't get supporters that excited. He's an average player, that is struggling to get into the Rangers side.

"What he has is work-rate and exuberance which is always nice to see but Birmingham need a lot more than that in this window. They need quality and someone who can improve their side.

"He'd be a good player to have as a squad rotation man but he doesn't get into their starting XI, so as a signing mid-way through the season it's lacking a wow factor.

"In terms of whether it's needed or not, it probably is. More faces in the better as they do look depleted at times when a couple of injuries hit the side. Would it be a good signing overall? Probably not, and they could do better elsewhere."
