After experiencing such a woeful 2018/19 campaign in the Premier League, which resulted in the club finishing 20 points from safety, a return to the Championship seemingly offered a fresh start for Huddersfield Town.

With manager Jan Siewert bringing in the likes of Reece Brown, Tommy Elphick and Kamil Grabara earlier this summer, spirits were understandably high amongst the club's supporters heading into the first game of the season.

However, having suffered defeat to Derby County at the John Smith's Stadium, Huddersfield then had to settle for a draw against Queens Park Rangers last week.

Yet whereas the Terriers did show fleeting signs of promise in both of these fixtures, their performance against Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup was utterly disastrous.

Despite Imps boss Danny Cowley making five changes to his side, he was still able to guide the League One outfit to a shock 1-0 victory courtesy of a Harry Anderson strike.

Here, in our FLW Six Pointer, we assess where things have gone wrong for Huddersfield so far this season and look at how Siewert could resolve the situation he currently finds himself in.

Firstly, has Siewert made any changes to his tactics this season?

"After failing to achieve success with a direct style of football during the previous campaign, Siewert has decided to drastically alter his tactics this year by encouraging his players to maintain possession.

"Although the Terriers did illustrate a willingness to stick to the German's plan throughout their clash with Derby, a lack of a cutting edge in the final third ultimately led to the club losing this particular game.

"Whereas there seems to be no signs that Siewert is willing to deploy a back-up plan, he may have to mix it up over the coming weeks if his players continue to be extremely lacklustre whilst on the ball."

How have the club's new signings fared?

"With no fewer than seven players making the move to the John Smith's Stadium this summer, it was always going to be intriguing to see whether any of them could have an instant impact for Huddersfield.

"However, although the Terriers are only three games into the season, the early signs do not look too promising.

"Whereas Brown, Josh Koroma, Trevor Chalobah and Herbert Bockhorn all flattered to deceive for the Terriers against Lincoln,  Elphick's dismal debut against Derby saw him gift a goal to Tom Lawrence following a mix-up with Liverpool loanee Grabara."

Are the players still suffering from a losing mentality?

"Having suffered defeat on 28 occasions in the Premier League last season, the club's poor start to the year may be a result of them still suffering from a severe lack of confidence.

"With a vast chunk of the squad made up of players who were involved in the Terriers' relegation from the top-flight, they may not believe in their ability to get over the line in games.

"If this is indeed the case, Huddersfield may be in for a tough campaign in a league that is known for being extremely unforgiving."

Could the Terriers be dragged into another relegation battle?

"Whereas it is too early to suggest that Huddersfield are in a full-blown crisis, if they continue to perform poorly there is every chance that they could be dragged into a relegation dogfight this season.

"Having recently allowed their talisman Aaron Mooy to leave on loan, the Terriers may struggle to cope without his presence in the heart of midfield, whilst the jury is still out on whether goalkeeper Grabara is an adequate replacement for the now-departed Jonas Lossl.

"When you also consider that Huddersfield have also not looked entirely convincing in defence, the club's supporters will have every right to be worried the prospect of suffering back-to-back relegations."

How much pressure is Siewert currently under?

"After winning just one game last season after being handed the reins by Huddersfield following David Wagner's departure, Siewert would have been hoping to kick off the current campaign in a positive manner.

"However, this has not been the case and thus Saturday's clash with Fulham has now become a must-win for the 36-year-old.

"Under a considerable amount of pressure, it will be intriguing to see whether Siewert sinks or swims this season as there are many who are already questioning his future at the John Smith's Stadium."

Could Fraizer Campbell turn out to be the Terriers' saviour?

"Brought in by Huddersfield earlier this week on a free transfer, Fraizer Campbell will be determined to deliver the goods for his hometown club.

"Although he parted ways with Hull City earlier this summer, the forward was nevertheless very impressive last season for the Terriers' Championship rivals as he found the back of the net on 12 occasions.

"If he can repeat, or even exceed this total for Huddersfield during the current campaign, he could very well turn out to be their saviour."
