The January transfer window is fast approaching, and clubs will be looking at their finances to determine how much transfer funds they have to utilise.

Villa are well and truly tied down by FFP, and will struggle to muster up sizeable funds next month.

How much would Villa need to fork out in January to ensure a top six finish in the Championship?

We discuss.....

George Dagless

I'd say about £5m.

The problem for Villa is that they are a bit tied up by FFP and so I don't think they're going to be able to spend the cash they'd like.

I'd argue that their first XI is pretty good but their squad depth has been hammered by injuries and a new striker is the biggest need of all.

It's more what they can afford to spend.

The club have operated on a strict budget this season, not paying big fees for anyone so Bruce may have to look for a bargain.

It's only really centre-forward where Villa are desperate and Bruce would surely be happy to spend whatever money is available in that position. A centre-back would be nice, but if Villa could find £5-6m for a quality striker then it could ensure they finish in the top two.

Alfie Burns

Not much, Bruce’s squad is already looking healthy.

Obviously a striker is on the club’s radar due to Jonathan Kodjia’s injury, but Villa look set to use the loan market to add to that certain area.

Another centre-back would also be a welcome addition, but less than £5m should secure a place in the top-six.

Adam Simeoni

They can't afford to spend a penny, and I don't think they need to.

A couple of solid loan signings should be enough to keep Villa in the top-six, with a striker a priority in the new year.

Secure a talented young goalscorer, and they should be just fine.
