It has emerged that Everton will have a specific period in January to act if they want to recall Joao Virginia from his disappointing loan move to Reading.

The young Portuguese goalkeeper has started just three games for the Royals since his loan move from the Toffees in the summer.

He has made a number of mistakes in those games, including an awful error of judgement when trying to save a shot in the Carabao Cup tie at Wolves earlier in the season.

Since, he hasn't featured for the Royals, and hasn't even made the Reading match day squad in eight of the 15 Championship games that Mark Bowen's side has played.

In the early parts of the season, Royals supporters voiced their concern at the keeper's current ability and that led to the club signing Rafael before the transfer deadline. He's now Reading's first choice with Sam Walker used as the number two.
