In a season that has seen Leeds United challenging for automatic promotion from the Championship, manager Marcelo Bielsa has achieved this despite never finding a direct replacement for attacking midfielder Samu Saiz, who left Elland Road for Getafe back in December last year, initially on loan with it set to become a permanent deal.

Bielsa though looks to have identified his Saiz replacement, with 23-year-old John Swift of Reading a serious target, according to Football Insider, regardless of whether Leeds are promoted or not.

But is Swift an adequate Saiz replacement for Leeds?

We discuss........

Gary Hutchinson

“It’s an interesting question.

“Saiz was unpredictable, both in a good way and bad.

“Swift wouldn’t bring the controversy, but then without that maverick spark does the role change?

“Sometimes, that little flash of anger makes a player what he is.”

Louie Chandler

"Yes, but is that a good thing?

"Like Saiz, Swift has shown that he can be a top player but struggles to show it consistently.

"Leeds should be looking to upgrade on Saiz rather than just replace him adequately."

Alfie Burns

“They are different types of player completely.

“If Leeds truly want to replace Saiz then I think they are going to need someone with a little bit more craft to play behind the striker.

“Swift is good, but he’s not got Saiz’s ability on the ball in my eyes – the Spaniard was a special player.”
