There is no doubt about the fact that Chris Coleman is up against it at the Stadium of Light in the coming months, with the former Welsh national boss tasked with guiding Sunderland clear of the Sky Bet Championship bottom-three.

It has been a testing return to the second-tier for the Black Cats, and Coleman now sees his side occupying a place in the relegation zone – albeit on goal difference after Saturday’s victory over Hull City.

Coleman is desperately looking to bolster his squad in the coming week, which in-turn should boost Sunderland’s hopes of survival.

Securing a handful of arrivals will be Coleman’s priority in the coming days, but the Sunderland boss could also be looking to shift a few players out of the Stadium of Light on-loan, as he looks to make room for more additions.

With that in mind, we take a look at TWO Sunderland players who should be pushing for a temporary move away from the club this week…

Jack Rodwell

Rodwell’s future has been well documented in recent weeks, with speculation as to whether the Sunderland man would have his contract terminated at the Stadium of Light.

If the midfielder doesn’t have his contracted terminated, he needs to be pushing for a loan move, which could be an opportunity for him to reignite a playing career that has stalled at the Stadium of Light.

At 26, Rodwell sill has time to turn things around, and moving on in some capacity this month could be key to that.

Jason Steele

Simon Grayson brought Steele to the Stadium of Light, with the expectancy that the goalkeeper would be first choice.

However, Coleman has favoured Robbin Ruiter since he replaced Grayson, leaving Steele kicking his heels on the bench.

The 27-year-old will be frustrated by his lack of opportunities, and could be knocking on Coleman’s door asking for a move.
