Sheffield Wednesday have had a season to forget this season in the Championship with them struggling for any kind of form.

Despite harbouring serious top six hopes at the start of the campaign - given their last two seasons reaching the play-offs - the Owls have been sub-par for the whole campaign so far.

Shaky in defence and blunt in attack, the Owls have been poor across the pitch and things haven't really improved under Jos Luhukay since his arrival.

There's work to do to get themselves away from the relegation scrap now, then, and if they do that they'll be looking to go again next season in the second tier.

With that in mind, then, here are two players that have not had good campaigns this year and need to be better for the run-in and for next season when the club will aim to get back to where they want to be...

It's been a tough season for van Aken.

In and out of the side for a number of reasons and inconsistent at best, the centre-half still needs to prove himself for the Owls.

He's good at playing the ball from the back but defensively he has made mistakes and that is what he needs to address ASAP.

It's been a tough year for the Owls' striker this season with him well out of form and short of confidence.

There was a brief glimmer of hope at one point but on the whole he's not been where he will want to be as the missing piece in Wednesday's promotion challenge.

Injuries haven't helped, either, and so perhaps he needs the new season more than most in order to start afresh.
