New Sunderland boss Jack Ross will face a busy summer as he looks to transform his squad and build a team capable of winning promotion.

An immediate return to the Championship will be the expectation but Ross will know it won't be easy for the Black Cats.

It certainly won't be helped with the large number of players that are expected in and out the door at the Stadium of Light in the coming weeks.

However, the arrival of new owner Stewart Donald has given fans more hope and optimism about what the future could hold.

And, they've been linked with some quality players in the past few weeks, none more so than Hibs midfielder John McGinn who would be a real coup for the League One club.

Yet, to fund his arrival departures could be necessary and here we look at two players who could be on their way out if the 23-year old did join...

The reality is that McGinn would be an expensive signing for a third tier club and Sunderland are going to have to sell some key men to finance that.

One could be Northern Ireland international McNair who wants to leave the club amid interest from Premier League Brighton.

Given his desire to go it would make sense to sell McNair if it could help bring in McGinn.

The experienced midfielder has been at Sunderland for years now but his performance levels have dropped over recent seasons.

He has failed to stamp his influence on the midfield and has played a big part in the double relegation.

When you add in his wages, which are sure to be high for League One, selling Cattermole to make way for McGinn would be great business.
