Ruben Lameiras could be the next shrewd acquisition by Chris Wilder.

The 23-year-old joined Plymouth Argyle last summer as a free agent, and he settled in to League One well with six goals and nine assists.

This has attracted the attention of the Blades as well as Reading with the fee for him likely to be higher than his £180,000 valuation on TransferMarkt.

He is versatile, but Wilder is likely to play him as an attacking midfielder because that suits his teams' 3-5-2 system best. United need new personnel to build on an impressive 10th place finish last season after being promoted from League One.

Here are two players who could be leaving this summer...

Duffy played well for United this season, but he is past his peak at 32-years-old and can offer little to them team past the short-term. Therefore, Lameiras would be an excellent long-term replacement for him with David Brooks helping the transition in the short-term. This would give Wilder two exciting attacking midfield options to choose from to either sit just behind a lone striker or form part of a midfield three.

The attacking midfielder could be one of the unfortunate victims of Wilder's gradual evolution of the side to ensure that their impressive first season back in the Championship is sustainable as well as making sure they can continue to challenge for the play-offs.

Evans returned to United last summer, but has shown little to suggest that they should keep him. He failed to score in his 13 appearances in all competitions with Wilder barely using him in the second half of the season.

Leon Clarke and Billy Sharp are strong options to have up front while Lameiras' potential arrival as well as David Brooks gives Wilder the ability to play a lone striker with an attacking midfielder. He could also bring in another striker this summer like he did in January when James Wilson joined on loan. Therefore, there is little need for Evans.
