It's been a thoroughly disappointing season as a fan of Reading Football Club, and the sacking of club icon Brian McDermott after just five months in the job optimises everything wrong at this club at the moment.

Whilst we can certainly agree that the future looks much more stable than in the Anton Zingarevich era, there is still a heavy amount of speculation about the intentions and commitment of Reading's Thai owners.

After back to back disappointing seasons, with the Royals finishing 17th in the Championship this term, the Thai's have become impatient and trigger-happy, and some stability is much needed over the summer if the new manager is to launch a promotion push next season.

This is a club in heavy transition, and a lot of change will be needed at the club if they are too succeed in even maintaining their status as a Championship club once their parachute payments run out at the end of this coming season.

Here are FOUR things that must happen this summer at Reading....

Certainty over the Thai's commitment

The Thai consortium have been remarkably quiet over the past half a season, and many fans fear they are both out of money and looking for a way out of the club.

Should that happen, the club could see administration as a real possibility, and fears of point deduction or dropping down to League 1 could be realistic.

If the Royals are to succeed next season, they must find some comfort from the owners.

Backroom organisation

Nicky Hammond

After the departure of long serving Director of Football Nicky Hammond to West Brom a couple of weeks back, and also the loss of Head Coach Chris Davies to Celtic, there is mass confusion as to who is performing what role behind the scenes.

With the arrival of Brian Tevreden from Ajax things are looking a little better, but there will have to be a lot of of reorganisation done among the backroom staff in the summer if Reading are to have a successful campaign.

Squad clear-out

readingbc

This Reading squad looks a million miles away from the side that won promotion to the Premier League last time out, and with the release of Anton Ferdinand, Simon Cox and Hal Robson-Kanu, it looks like the clear-out has already begun.

Oliver Norwood could easily depart to a Premier League side, should he have a good Euro 2016 campaign, and Danny Williams' massive wage demands could see him in the same boat.

Change is needed at the 'Mad Stad' this summer.

New manager

Jaap Stam

After the sacking of Brian McDermott out of nowhere, the Royals are now managerless.

If the Thais bring the right man in then there is no reason why, with a whole summer ahead of him, the new manager can't put together a competitive side.

With Jaap Stam looking like the clear favourite, with odds as low as 1/14 with some bookies, the Royals could have found their man, with Stam bringing a wealth of playing experience with him.
