Sheffield Wednesday were extremely unfortunate not to gain promotion from the Championship last season. Carlos Carvalhal completely revolutionised his side, and turned them from mid-table dwellers into a force to be reckoned with.

After a fairly average start Wednesday gained momentum and made a successful surge for the Play-Offs, where they beat Brighton in the semi-finals, before eventually crashing out at Wembley after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Hull.

It's been an astounding transition for this Sheffield Wednesday side, and the board have told Carlos Carvalhal that he will be given the necessary financial backing to help him seize their best chance of gaining promotion to the Premier League in recent times.

Last season, the Owls were extremely successful in the transfer market, bringing in the likes of Gary Hooper, Barry Bannan and Aiden McGeady, all of whom had the desired impacts.

Here are 4 signings who would undoubtedly improve Sheffield Wednesday next season.

Aaron Tshibola

The talented young midfielder is attracting interest from a host of teams, but the lure of a promotion challenge and the financial resources on offer could prove enough to bring Tshibola to Hillsborough this summer.

At just 21 years of age, this boy has tons of potential, and if he is given the necessary training and game time, he could turn into a solid Premier League midfielder.

Quick, powerful and armed with the ability to shoot from range, Tshibola would be a perfect fit for Wednesday.

Maximilian Wittek

Last summer Julien Weigl moved from 1860 Munich, nobody expected that he would have the impact he had.

However, Weigl was one of two wonderkids coming through at the German club, and 20-year old full back Maximilian Wittek has been praised as one of the next great left backs.

Wednesday would be able to offer a financial incentive that 1860 Munich couldn't afford, so bringing him in would not just be an excellent move, but entirely possible.

Stephane Sessegnon

The Benin international was released by Premier League outfit West Brom at the end of the season, and despite being 32 years of age, there is no doubt that Sessegnon would be able to cut it at Championship level.

Should he come in he would offer something completely different to Wednesday, and allow the to operate with a shadow striker just behind Gary Hooper or Fernando Forrestieri up front.

Gaston Ramirez

Ramirez is now out of contract with Premier League side Southampton, after joining the Saints from Bologna for £13 million in 2012, so would be available to Carlos Carvalhal on a free should he wish to sign the Uruguayan.

After an impressive loan spell with Middlesbrough at the back end of last season, it is clear to see that Ramirez has what it takes to play in a side challenging for promotion, like Sheffield Wednesday.
