While Newcastle United continue to make waves in the transfer market, there is a sense in the world of football that they are not quite done spending just yet.

Over the years the Magpies have had some top quality players, many of whom have been purchased from other teams for vast amounts of money. Players like Fabricio Coloccini, Xisco, Albert Luque, and Gino Wijnaldum have all arrived for decent sums, with different success rates of course.

The signings of Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle for over £1om each show that manager Rafa Benitez is not afraid to splash the cash this summer either, and he will no doubt be looking to scour the market further as the summer moves on.

Newcastle will be expected to walk the league this year, but to do so they might just need to add a few more fresh faces.

Here, FLW writer Lee Connor takes a look at FOUR signings who would improve Newcastle United...

Grant Hanley

This is quite an obvious place to begin, but Hanley would actually be an excellent addition if they can secure his signature, given the rumours around him joining already.

Hanley offers a presence at the back and crucially, a wealth of Championship experience, something which is probably missing at the moment.

Blackburn will most definitely want to keep hold of Hanley, but the temptation of making the move to Newcastle might be too much to resist, and it might not be too long before we see him stepping out at St James Park.

Jordan Ayew

While Aston Villa will no doubt be keen to avoid Ayew moving to a league rival, Newcastle might be well served putting a bid in for the striker.

In a miserable season for Villa, Ayew at times at least offered a glimmer of hope with some of his performances, and a move this summer could well be on the cards for the brother of Swansea striker Andre.

Ayew has pace in abundance and a keen eye for goal, while being able to operate through the middle and out wide in the attacking positions. He might be another costly buy, but Ayew does have the ability and a season in the Championship could be the making of him.

Martin Odegaard

This selection might surprise a few people, but there is a distinct possibility Rafa Benitez might go back to Spain and try and pinch a few young stars, and those young stars don't come much bigger than Norwegian Odegaard.

He signed for Real Madrid amid a huge fanfare and expectation, as the 16-year-old had displayed a talent in his homeland well beyond his years.

Despite not really breaking into the Real first team as yet, the expectation is still there that he will become a top player. A move to England can always help, and with a team like Newcastle likely to romp the division, Odegaard would be able to express himself and get on the ball.

The added physicality of the Championship as well would do him wonders, and while Madrid might well want to keep hold of him long term, there is nothing to stop Benitez going and taking the young midfielder on loan.

Charlie Adam

While Newcastle have Jonjo Shelvey to run things in the middle, the likely losses of Wijnaldum and Sissoko will leave a gap in the midfield areas.

Charlie Adam could be an ideal signing. He is no longer a regular at Stoke City, but when he does play, his class is there for all to see.

He was top drawer for Blackpool during their promotion season in the Championship so possesses that experience, and his dead ball expertises make him a player well worth having in your line-up.

Should Adam be tempted to move, Newcastle could be the ideal destination for the former Liverpool man.
