After narrowly missing out on the play-offs last season by just 5 points, Ipswich Town will be hoping to build on the last campaign and mount a real push for a play-off place this time round.

The upcoming season will be Mick McCarthy's fifth season in charge of the club and he will be hoping that it's his most successful one yet.

In all of the last three seasons, the Tractor Boys have managed to achieve a top half finish but only one campaign has seen them reach the play-offs.

Unfortunately for the boys in blue, they were defeated by fierce rivals Norwich City.

However, reaching the play-offs next season is looking increasingly difficult due to the quality that fellow teams have brought in.

In preparation for the new season, the Suffolk club have brought in 2 players, Alan Webster and Paul Digby, but they will not stop there.

Jon Toral

One position that the Tractor Boys could do with strengthening is the attacking midfield area.

Currently, they don't really have any players who have the ability to deliver goals either by creating them or scoring themselves.

Arsenal midfielder, Jon Toral, could be an option for Mick McCarthy after he had a very impressive season with Birmingham City last time out.

The midfielder contributed 8 goals during the campaign and his goals and general performances were vital to the Blues' 10th place finish.

If Ipswich were to bring the midfielder in then he would add a huge amount of creativity and attacking intent to the midfield area.

Tendayi Darikwa

Current right-back at Ipswich Town is the experienced head of Luke Chambers.

However, the former Nottingham Forest man is not a natural fit in the berth, and his lack of pace often becomes very evident against a tricky winger.

One possible replacement could be Burnley right-back Tendayi Darikwa.

The former Chesterfield man only joined The Clarets last summer but featured just 21 times in the league last campaign.

The 24-year-old would bring the club a great amount of pace which could prove essential to prevent goals from being conceded.

Matt Targett

Another position which they could arguably do with improving on is on the opposite side of the field in the left-back position.

Current left-back Jonas Knudsen is certainly showing signs of improvement but many find him not up to scratch.

A potential replacement for the Danish defender could be Southampton starlet Matt Targett.

At just 20 years of age, the Saints ace has already done very well for himself making 32 appearances on the South Coast.

He also made 20 appearances last season often filling in for Ryan Bertrand when he wasn't available but the Premier League side may be looking to loan out the full-back in order for him to gain more first-team experience.

They've been linked with a move for Aston Villa defender Jordan Amavi, potentially opening up a space for a sale.

Che Adams

One position which Ipswich are massively lacking in is in the wide midfield areas. The only real winger that is contracted at the club is Cameron Stewart, who has only ever played two times for the Tractor Boys.

One option for McCarthy could be Che Adams of Sheffield United. At 19 years of age, Adams has got to be one of the most promising players in the whole of the Football League.

The winger joined the Blades in 2014 from non-league Ilkeston and he has never stopped growing in ability since. The youngster has already made 54 appearances at Bramall Lane he has scored an impressive 15 goals for the club.

He had a fantastic season last time out, featuring 41 times with a return of 12 goals.

The signing of Che Adams would be an unbelievable capture for Ipswich as he would add something completely different to the side.
