Former Premier League title winners Blackburn Rovers will be plying their trade in England's third tier next season, and will be looking to escape what looks set to be a very competitive league next year.

With the likes of Wigan Athletic coming down from the Championship and Doncaster Rovers and Plymouth Argyle gaining promotion from League Two, it will be a tough ask for Rovers to bounce straight back up to the Championship at the first time of asking.

However, after Tony Mowbray took the reigns at Ewood Park towards the end of the season they did undergo a revival and the former Middlesbrough and Celtic manager has only suffered three defeats in his opening 15 games.

Fans and players alike will no doubt be full of hope and expectation that Rovers will be able to power their way out of England's third tier at the first time of asking.

This article is going to take a look at THREE signings that Blackburn could make this summer to help them achieve their goals next season..

Bradley Dack

A seasoned League One campaigner who would certainly help Blackburn achieve their goals next season is Gillingham midfield maestro Bradley Dack.

Dack had a relatively quiet season last time out in comparison to his usual standards, the 23-year-old netted six goals in 39 appearances for the strugglers as the club narrowly escaped the embarrassment of relegation to League Two.

After experiencing the struggles of last season with the club, now may be the perfect time for Dack to jump ship and further his career elsewhere.

In total, Dack has netted almost 40 goals for the club in 185 appearances and has demonstrated many many attributes to suggest he is capable of playing at a higher level.

The young englishman has the knack of arriving late on the scene, in the right place, at the right time and is certainly part of a dying breed that is a goal scoring midfielder.

John Marquis

Another signing that would improve Tony Mowbray's squad for their assault on the League One title next year is Doncaster Rovers man John Marquis.

Marquis is coming off the back of a remarkable campaign in League Two with the South Yorkshire club, the frontman finished as the League's overall top goalscorer after netting 26 times as Rovers battled their way to promotion.

Despite being only 25-years-old, Marquis is well travelled after enjoying numerous loan spells with the likes of Gillingham, Northampton Town, Leyton Orient and Portsmouth. The hotshot started his career with Millwall for whom he appeared 65 times, scoring 6 times in the process.

Marquis is a strong, powerful frontman who would certainly add a huge goal threat to this Blackburn Rovers side.

James Vaughan

James Vaughan is likely to be a striker high in demand this summer after enjoying a terrific season at League One Bury, for whom he made 40 appearances, netting a remarkable 24 times in the process.

Only Sheffield United's Billy Sharp scored more than Vaughan last season and his performances earned him a spot in the League One team of the year.

In his earlier years when still plying his trade at Premier League outfit Everton, Vaughan was regarded as a potential England first teamer and actually earned caps for the under 17, 19 and 21 teams.

However, his career hasn't quite planned out that way for various reasons but, their is no doubting Vaughan's quality.

The 28-year-old has previously represented the likes of Norwich City, Huddersfield Town, Crystal Palace and Birmingham City and would add a wealth of experience to Blackburn's frontline for next season should Tony Mowbray look to secure the signature of the frontman.
