It was a heartbreaking end to the season last May for Sheffield Wednesday fans as they saw their team lose the Championship Play-Off Final to Hull City, by a narrow 1-0 score-line to condemn them to another campaign in the second tier of English football.

Manager Carlos Carvalhal is now set to prepare his team for a big promotion push after last season's near miss, and one of his most important tasks will be improving areas of weakness in the squad for the 2016/17 season.

The club has already moved quickly to sign ex-Sunderland and Wolves striker Steven Fletcher on a free transfer with more signings expected over the coming weeks.

However, to make room for these new players there must be a number of departures from the Owls.

Football League World writer Steve Day casts his opinion on which THREE Sheffield Wednesday plays look destined to face the exit at Hillsborough this summer.

Atdhe Nuhiu

The 26- year-old Kosovo striker joined Wednesday three-years ago from Austrian club Rapid Vienna, and has divided opinion amongst Owls supporters with some considering him a unique option to have up front with others describing him as a cart horse that does not score enough goals.

Nuhiu has hit the net just 19 times in 121 league appearances and with the Owls possessing so many strikers it could well be the 6 feet 6 inch target man, that is first to depart the club this summer.

His future has come under even more scrutiny after the signing of Fletcher.

Recent transfer speculation has linked him with a return to Turkish side Eskisehirspor.

He spent the 2012/13 season on loan with the club and now they are looking to bring Nuhiu back to the club after they suffered relegation from the Turkish Super Lig last season.

His departure appears imminent.

Darryl Lachman

This player might not be known to many non-Wednesday fans and that is probably because he hasn't actually played a single game for the Owls, since he joined the club back in the summer of 2015 from Dutch Eredivisie side FC Twente.

His signing was praised by a number of supporters but the 26-year-old centre back has found first team opportunities impossible to find, and he spent last season on loan with Dutch side SC Cambuur, but he also failed to make a huge impression there only making 15 appearances.

Lachman faces competition for places with the more experienced and favoured Glenn Loovens and Tom Lees.

Another loan move would seem to make no sense at his age and a move away from Yorkshire seems the most logical option.

Lewis Price

A controversial last name on this list with the talented Welsh international goalkeeper Price.

The 31-year-old has been a great servant to the Championship having previously played for Ipswich Town, Derby County, and Crystal Palace before moving to Hillsborough.

However, he has not managed to displace Republic of Ireland international stopper Keiren Westwood from the number one spot.

Price might have only joined Wednesday last summer but he has only made 5 league appearances for the Owls since that move.

The Welshman still has a number of years left in his career and it is highly probable that Price will seek a move away from the club, if his chances of first team football are further diminished by the rise through the ranks of the youthful Wildsmith leaving a transfer away from the club the most realistic possibility.
