Sheffield United are club who through the years have always prided themselves on hardworking professionals and a team spirit that is second to none.

Over the last few seasons, this seems to have gone awry a bit, but under new manager Chris Wilder, things look to be picking up in that sense.

The Blades have always had players in their squad who are considered underrated, players who are key to ensuring the team ticks along as they put the graft in.

Players like Nick Montgomery, Stuart McCall, and Chris Morgan have all fallen into this category over the last two decades, with each of them proving harder than imagined to replace.

There are still some players within the Sheffield United team today who fans have similar opinions of.

Here, FLW writer Lee Connor looks at THREE Sheffield United players who could be considered underrated...

Matty Done

Although rated within the confines of the club, Matty Done is not really a recognisable name outside of League One.

However, Done is an excellent player for Sheffield United, and has epitomised what Chris Wilder is all about with his workrate and effort so far this season.

While the goals have yet to really flow in a Blades shirt, the work and sheer persistence he puts into his game make him a vital component in the team when they are looking to play high tempo football.

Kieron Freeman

The former Derby right back has had to bide his time at Bramall Lane, but with John Brayford now departed, he is seizing his chance.

Transfer listed in the summer, many expected Freeman to be on his way out, however he has come in to the team since Brayford left, and grabbed his opportunity with both hands.

He bagged his first goal of the season against Gillingham yesterday, and looks set for a continued run in the team.

Chris Basham

A player who divides opinion in numerous ways at Bramall Lane is Chris Basham. Whether it be what his best position is, his on the ball skill level, or his 'rash' challenges, fans are often at loggerheads over Basham.

However, there is no questioning he is a good squad player, with his versatility a key aspect of his game, and his energy levels when he plays in the middle of the park are not to be underestimated.

Basham is seemingly liked by new manager Chris Wilder, and as one of the elder statesmen in the Blades line-up, will more than likely keep his place in the side for the foreseeable future.
