Sheffield United ultimately endured a miserable season last time out, with manager Nigel Adkins paying the price with his job at the end of the season, and many players finding themselves released by new gaffer Chris Wilder.

Wilder has added new players to the ranks in the form of Mark Duffy, Chris Hussey, and more recently John Fleck from Coventry City. He has recalled Stefan Scougall and Marc McNulty from the wilderness, and it looks as though these two will be given a chance.

However, after transfer listing 7 other players and making it clear he will not stand for anything less than full commitment and effort from his players, there are some in the squad who will be fearing the worst.

With this in mind, FLW writer Lee Connor takes a look at THREE Sheffield United players who are fighting for their future...

Kieran Wallace

The versatile 21-year-old joined the club at the same time as Che Adams, arriving from non-league Ilkeston Town.

He began last season in good form, turning his hand to being a left back and doing a pretty good job as Nigel Adkins allowed him to fill in for the injured Bob Harris.

However, he fell down the pecking order and hasn't been seen in a Blades shirt much since. Wallace will be keen to impress and follow in the footsteps of his former Ilkeston teammate Adams as next season begins.

Kieron Freeman

The full back was transfer listed immediately upon Wilder joining, but has been with the squad during pre-season so far and might see the low squad numbers as an opportunity for him to maybe secure a place in the team.

Freeman spent part of last season on loan with Portsmouth with fellow Blade Marc McNulty, but didn't have quite the same impact as the Scottish striker.

The former Derby man needs to do well over pre-season if he is to convince Wilder he is worthy of a place in the team, or he risks being moved on at the first opportunity.

Stefan Scougall

As mentioned in the opening to this article, Scougall and Marc McNulty have both been recalled to the squad following loan spells last term.

Scougall though needs to really get back into the swing of things with the Blades, and try and rediscover the form he showed initially under Nigel Clough a few seasons ago.

If the little Scot can show the same drive from midfield that he did during that spell under Clough, then United have a real player on their hands.

If he continues to take a back seat and not be involved, then it could be time up for Scougall and his Blades career.
