Rotherham United will embark on a new era at the New York Stadium during the 2016/17 campaign, with former Hibernian manager Alan Stubbs not tasked with taking the Millers onto the next level.

The ex-Everton central defender has taken his first job in the English football and he will be keen to get the Millers firing at the right end of the table next season.

Neil Warnock oversaw a remarkable turnaround last season and kept the Millers in the Championship, despite them looking doomed upon his arrival.

Warnock clearly saw his achievements as mission accomplished with the club and departed from his position at the end of the 2015/16 campaign.

Stubbs arrives in South Yorkshire on the back of an impressive Scottish Cup Final win over Rangers and he will be keen to show the Championship exactly what he is capable of in management.

Football League World writer Lee Clarke takes a look at three Rotherham United players who will dictate the club’s 2016/17 campaign.

Lee Camp

The impressive Rotherham United goalkeeper was voted as the club’s Player of the Year last season following a series of fine performances between the posts.

The 31-year-old is a solid Championship stopper and much of the Millers’ form next season will depend on how consistent Camp is in goal.

Camp has always had solid credentials as a Championship stopper after time spent with Derby County and Nottingham Forest and the club will be hoping he can replicate last season’s form during 2016/17.

Stubbs might look to bring another custodian in to act as cover but there is little doubting who will be handed the gloves at the start of next season.

Joe Newell

The former Peterborough United midfielder is earning quite a reputation for himself at Rotherham United and can play in a number of positions.

Primarily he plays as a left winger and boasts an absolute wand of a left foot, making him one the better wingers in the Championship, when he is on top form.

The 23-year-old is still a student of the game of football and playing most weeks for Rotherham United will be doing his development no harm at all.

Stubbs will rely on Newell having another solid season during 2016/17 and if he can get him hitting top form, Rotherham will have a real gem of a player on their hands.

Kirk Broadfoot

The Scottish central defender is a vital piece of the Rotherham United defensive unit and the Millers’ supporters will be hoping he can recreate last season’s form in the 2016/17 campaign.

The ex-Blackpool man signed for the Millers in 2014 and last season he managed 32 appearances in the Sky Bet Championship helping the club in their quest for survival.

With Lee Camp in goal and Broadfoot in the heart of defence, Rotherham have some vital experience in their defensive ranks and that could be a crucial element of Alan Stubbs’ team next season.

Rotherham United fans, do you think these players will be key for the Millers next season? Is there someone else who could be more important?
